Several labels will release an album by an artist, then re-release it 6 months later as a "special edition" and release one of the new songs a few months before to radio, basically forcing fans of an artist to buy the album again with the artists' new big hit on it.

  • The "6 months later with bonus tracks" scheme is especially done with R&B and pop music.
  • It hasn't been re-released with extras (yet.), but on the initial release, three versions were available: The standard album in CD or LP form, a 3 CD version with a disc of cover songs and a disc of instrumental versions of the regular album's songs, and another edition with everything from before, a lithograph from the artist who designed the cover art, a mousepad, and a DVD with isolated tracks for all the audio on the regular album so people could do their own remixes of the songs.
  • Dream Theater's album Black Clouds & Silver Linings is a pretty good example.
  • This has become a running joke within the music community to the point where almost no one buys a Roadrunner album upon its release, because they can get it six months later with bonus tracks. There are currently at least five separate versions of Mercyful Fate's "Melissa" album available, not taking separate mediums into account (LPs, Cassettes) or the astonishing amount of compilations or especially live albums with songs from the album on them. and it's even got to the point where they are releasing albums 10 years later with very little in the way of bonuses. then releasing it six months later with bonus tracks.

Both of these reviews were mostly positive, both talking about experiments with sounds on this track and many others from the album. It's a lulling, precious ballad sung with an optimistic outlook on love. My pick off the album, "Hate To See Your Heart Break," is a vulnerable piece that reminds us of Ingrid Michaelson's "The Way I Am." Don't believe me? Fast-forward to the chorus. Natasha Shankar of 'sheknows' said, "sounds like the band is not experimenting with this, and they are even proud of where they are. (Haven’t you heard the record’s narrative arc up to this point, anonymous sad person? The highs and lows brought on by the fluctuations of the heart will all even out, sort of, eventually.)" The website gave the song an overall 4/5 stars. PopDust had said, "in this delicate, comforting ballad, Hayley Williams is in full-on grief-counselor mode, with perfectly pitched strings serving as the counterbalance to her reassurances that everything will be all right to someone who’s convinced that they’ll never love another human being again in their lives, no way, no how.

"Hate to See Your Heart Break" received mostly positive reviews from critics. This marks Paramore's sixth music video from the self-titled album, the second music video released in 2014, and the band's twentieth music video altogether. This is currently the second music video by Paramore to not feature Jeremy Davis and Taylor York (the first being Anklebiters). Many parts of the video show the two talking together, laughing, and singing into their microphones. The entire music video was made when the two ladies were recording the song in the studio. The video featured only Hayley Williams and Joy Williams in black and white. This music video was directed by Chuck Davis Willis. The official music video for "Hate to See Your Heart Break" featuring Joy Williams was released on November 24, 2014.
